Security and Risk Assessment Training to Human Rights Defenders (HRDs)-Tanzania

We have launched the Security and Risk Assessment Training to Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) working in the Extractive Sector in Mwanza. The training is being held at Gold Crest Hotel in Mwanza from today (31th August 2016) till 2cd September 2016. being supported by Open Society Initiative For East Africa (OSIEA).

The security management training to HRDs working on extractive industry is a unique workshop which will not just inform HRDs on the security and protection measures but also the workshop is designed to cover the General Understanding of the UN and African region human rights system and mechanism on Extractive Industry, Introduction to Business and Human rights, Legal framework on business and human rights (Judicial and Non-Judicial remedial mechanisms) along analyzing the Situation of Extractive Industry in Tanzania.

Furthermore, the workshop aims to train HRDs on how to Conduct Secured Advocacy and Campaigns. It will also the emphasis on Security and Protection management to Human rights defenders. Moreover, the workshop will analyze working environment and available protection mechanism for HRDs. It will also provide the platform to share various Experiences and Testimonies from HRDs with the purpose of learning from one another.
