Tanzania has distanced itself from the East African common Visa that is meant to market the region as a single tourism market reports the Standard. Tanzania’s Foreign Affairs permanent secretary, Aziz Mlima made the announcement
Tanzania is not party to the joint marketing strategies by Kenya, Ugandan and Rwanda as well.
So far, at least 4,000 tourists will be visiting the three East African nations on the Visa.
“Tourists who will be moving between the three countries that form the coalition will now be using a common visa that will be charged at $100 (Sh10,122) instead of $150 (Sh15,183) that each country charged before,” Said Kenya’s Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala
The Minister called for Tanzania to join in the marketing strategy and asked them not to be afraid of competition among the East African nations. He further added that the number of tourists to the region has decreased.
